This course provides instruction and experience in preparation
and delivery of speeches within a public setting and group
discussion. Emphasis is placed on research, preparation,
delivery, and evaluation of informative, persuasive, and
special occasion public speaking. Upon completion, students
should be able to prepare and deliver well-organized speeches
and participate in group discussion with appropriate audiovisual
support. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive
Articulation Agreement general education core requirement
in speech/communication. |

This course introduces theory and history of persuasive
speaking, covering critical thinking skills in analyzing
problems, assessing solutions, and communicating the information
to an audience. Emphasis is placed on analysis, evidence,
reasoning, and library and field research used to enhance
persuasive public speaking skills. Upon completion, students
should be able to apply the principles of persuasive speaking
in a public setting. |

This course introduces the principles of debate. Emphasis
is placed on argument, refutation, research, and logic. Upon
completion, students should be able to use research skills
and logic in the presentation of ideas within the context

the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement pre-major and/or
elective course requirement. |
