The Region X volleyball tournament will be hosted by Surry Community College on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. The tournament will consist of 7 NC community colleges along with Pasco-Hernando Community College from Florida. The winner of the tournament will represent District P in the National Volleyball Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin starting November 17. Pasco-Hernando went on to capture the National Championship last year after defeating Cape Fear Community College in the Region/District championship. The Conquistadors are currently ranked fourth nationally in the latest NJCAA volleyball poll.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting this year’s Region X volleyball tournament,” stated Surry athletic director, Mark Tucker. “This tournament is not only a great showcase for our college, but also our area. Last year, our athletic programs had a local economic impact of over 1.1 million dollars. Hopefully with this tournament and with hosting the Region X softball tournament in the spring, that amount will increase.”
Although seeding for the tournament has not been determined due to several remaining regular season conference games, a tournament schedule has been released. The single elimination tournament will begin on Saturday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. when the number two seed from the East will face the number three seed from the West. At 1:00 p.m. the number one seed from the West will face the number four seed from the East. The number two seed from the West will face the number three seed from the East at 3:00 p.m., and in the final game of the day at 5:00 pm, the number one seed from the East will face the number four seed in the West.
On Sunday, the winner from Saturday’s first two games will face off at 10:00 a.m. while the winners of Saturday’s afternoon games will meet each other at 12:00 p.m. The winners will then meet in the championship game at approximately 2:00 p.m.
“This will be a great opportunity to see some exciting college volleyball,” added Tucker. “These teams will feature some great players, and we certainly anticipate some outstanding games. With not being scheduled to host this tournament again until 2025, we certainly want to make this a memorable experience for all the participating players, coaches, and fans.”
Admission for the tournament is $5.00 per day for adults (12 years and over) and free for children under 12 years old. Tournament admission is set by Region X. For more tournament information, please contact Mark Tucker at 336-386-3217. |
