Surry Baseball Assists With Food Delivery

In a continuing effort to assist the community, members of the Surry baseball team along with Head Coach, Jamie Lowe, delivered several food boxes to needy families. Team members delivered food items to over 15 families around the Dobson area just prior to Christmas.

The boxes included items such as turkeys, potatoes, bread, eggs, canned and boxed goods. The delivery was a coordinated effort between Beverly Jones of the Foothills Food Pantry and members of the Surry baseball team.

“This was an outstanding partnership to help assist those in need,” commented Lowe.  “Our student-athletes got a great feeling with being able to assist those in need especially during the holidays.”

Earlier this month, the Surry baseball team also assisted the Surry County Sheriff’s Department with their annual Christmas Food Drive. Team members helped load boxes and then delivered them to needy families in the area.

“It was a pleasure to assist the Sheriff’s Department with their food drive,” added Lowe. “What the Foothills Food Pantry along with the Sheriff’s Department does for those in need is amazing and makes you proud to be a part of helping out.”

The Surry baseball team opens the 2011 season on February 11 hosting Suffolk County College of New York.  Game time is set for 1 pm.
