The Surry volleyball team recently held their first annual volleyball camp. The camp was held in the campus gym and consisted of two separate sessions over a three day period.
The morning session featured 54 beginners that had little or no previous volleyball experience while the afternoon session consisted of 30 intermediate players.
“We had an incredible camp with a total of 84 campers,” stated Surry head volleyball coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “Our college team members did an outstanding job with helping teach and develop the fundamentals of volleyball. Hopefully this camp helped to spark an interest in young girls to play volleyball.”
Each camper also had an opportunity to participate in several skill challenges including setting, serving, and passing on the final day. At the conclusion of the camp, several door prizes and awards were presented along with all participants receiving a certificate and camp t-shirt.
The Lady Knights are coming off a 20-6 season in 2009 while finishing as Region X Runners-Up. Surry will open up the 2010 volleyball season in Winston-Salem on September 3 in a tri-match with Piedmont College and Crown College starting at 5:00 p.m.
The Lady Knights will host Virginia Western in their home opener on September 18 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
