February 15, 2012 - Stories From the Underground Railroad
This presentation is part art exhibition, part history and part decoding of the secrets behind the quilt patches that are synonymous with the Underground Railroad. Areas examined will include why slaves sought out the Underground Railroad, the contributions of the Quakers, and a look at some of the heroic individuals who faced capture and death to help others obtain freedom. The story of the Underground Railroad is one of courage and determination in the face of great peril and should not be forgotten. The presentation will be held in A-121 from 11am-12pm. This project is made possible in part by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
