Que "Syrah Syrah" for winemaker who realized there's no place
like home.

Jason Wiseman is a wine-making consultant who credits Surry Community College for providing him the hands-on viticulture and enology skills that he couldn't get anywhere else in the region. Mr. Wiseman attended Appalachian State University and received his Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He graduated in 2005 and moved to Napa Valley hoping to learn more about the art of making wine. After two years, Mr. Wiseman decided to come back to North Carolina, realizing the relatively new wine industry here could provide him greater opportunity to learn and to advance his career. He decided to enroll Surry Community College's viticulture and enology program. "My story is a little unique, as I started Surry after I had my Bachelor's Degree. Surry's Community College's viticulture and enology program gave me the hands-on skills to advance my career beyond my Bachelor's Degree," states Mr. Wiseman. Now, Mr. Wiseman is consulting and making wine for two Yadkin Valley wineries.
