I was a full-time student from 1980-1982.  My two college years at Surry Community College were memorable times with memorable people that I will never forget — from homecoming queen to being a member of the student government association under the leadership of Dr. Carlyle Shepherd!  Carlyle and Margaret Shepherd were the kind of people whose character was the epitome of what a college dreams to have on staff.  They motivated.  They encouraged and they were genuinely caring people that I felt blessed to call friends.  Dr. Gary Tilley was another of my teachers who I attribute to getting me involved into community involvement and encouraged me to set no limits on what I could achieve.  Several years after graduating from SCC, Dr. Tilley asked me to serve as a Vice President of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce while he was President.  His encouragement was the beginning of serving on several boards including the United Fund, the American Heart Association, local and state REALTOR boards, as well as more.  In Kansas City, in July of 2009, I will become the President of the National Auctioneers Association Auxiliary.  I currently serve on the Regional Board of Directors of Southern Community Bank and I am very blessed to be a member of the board of trustees of Surry Community College.  My heart has been at Surry Community for many years and I consider myself fortunate to continue to be a part of such a wonderful place!
