"12 in 6" JobsNOW Initiative  

 

Surry Community College is a partner in the “12 in 6” JobsNOW initiative of the state of North Carolina. Beginning with the Fall 2009 semester, the college will be offering a number of career training paths that can prepare participants for employment in the Surry/Yadkin County service area of the college and the surrounding region. Each pathway can be completed in a 6 month time frame. Tuition assistance will be available for qualifying dislocated workers being served by the local JobLink Career Centers.

The funding for this project was made available by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 and administered through the NC Department of Commerce, the Workforce Development Board and the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS).

The college is offering training in the following career pathways:

  • Adult Care Home Personal Care Aide
  • Customer Service Representative
  • Farm/Commercial Machinery and Vehicle Mechanic
  • Hospitality: Catering and Event Planning
  • Landscaping & Groundskeeping
  • Maintenance Mechanic/Technician
  • Medical Office/Clerical Support
  • Office/Clerical Support
  • Plumber’s Assistant
  • Vet Assistant/Pet Grooming& Boarding
  • Viticulture Technician
  • Welding

Each training pathway will include a number of content related courses as well as career development services to the participant including: Career Transition, Career Exploration, Career Readiness Certification, Job Search Strategies, Job Interviewing Skills, and more.
