Deutshe Welle

In recognition of the increasingly international character of the College's service area, SCC TV introduced DW-TV to Charlotte-Mecklenburg cable viewers in 1995.  For the first time, cable viewers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg could see noncommercial, world news from an international perspective in three different languages.
 DW-TV Worldwide

As a broadcast affiliate of DW-TV, we bring live, up-to-the-minute programming at regular times throughout the day.  See our schedule for the hours we are currently airing DW-TV programming.

Background
DW-TV was launched in April 1992, originating from the nucleus of RIAS TV. It began operations with six hours of programming (in German and English) beamed around the world via satellite. Only a few months later, the programme was extended to 14 hours. In July 1993, Spanish was added as the third broadcasting language, and programming was expanded to 16 hours daily. DW-TV has been transmitting around the clock since 1995.

Programming
The content and structure of DW-TV programs are developed and updated in the light of international developments and target group analyses. Since January 1999, DW-TV has focused on news, information and culture.

Journal, the half hour news magazine, is DW-TV’s flagship, broadcast every hour alternately in German and English, and twice a day in Spanish. The magazine shows – such as Made in Germany, the business magazine, European Journal from Brussels or the science show, Tomorrow Today – significantly sharpen the new profile. The documentaries, along with the reports of In Focus cover a broad spectrum of topics.

Growing reputation
DW-TV can be received directly by more than 200 million households. CPCC-TV is one of several hundred partner stations around the world.

DW-TV programming is held in high esteem: a survey taken by the Department of Journalism and Communication Research in Hanover in 2000, found not only that DW-TV is well received by the core target group of opinion leaders and decision makers, but gets better marks in important areas than even BBC World and CNN in an international comparison. Respondents indicated DW-TV programs were more relevant, more objective and more cosmopolitan.

DW-TV is more than a worldwide TV service.  It is a comprehensive integrated media enterprise, offering websites and radio programs in more than 30 languages!
