CISL’s purpose is to serve as the Steering Committee for the SCC Quality Enhancement Plan. This involves the following responsibilities:
CISL involves the entire SCC community in choosing specific strategies for improving learning that best fit the College’s environment. The Council convened on September 2, 2002, when Dr. Steve Atkins, then Dean of Arts and Sciences, met with a small group of faculty and administration interested in promoting the learning college concept. Dr. Atkins presented the five Vanguard College Project objectives to this group (the League for Innovation's Vanguard College Project fund learning college initiatives across the nation and Canda). Meeting throughout the fall of 2002, CISL completed the following tasks:
During this time, CISL also began the early work of data collection related to faculty perceptions of college policies, college-wide learning outcomes, and student engagement. CISL did not meet during Spring, 2003, while the three project teams began intensive work on their goals. Over the summer and fall of 2003, CISL met regularly and expanded to its present membership of 30, representing faculty, staff, and administration. During this time, the Vice-President for Instruction, Dr. Steve Atkins, and the Director of the Academic Support Center, Connie Wolfe, became co-chairs of CISL. Current members include all Division Chairs, Deans, and the President of the College. Representatives from Continuing Education, Institutional Planning and Research, Distance Education, Student Services, and faculty representing both transfer and career technologies programs also serve on the Council. CISL continues to meet monthly. Purpose: To serve as Steering Committee for the SCC Quality Enhancement Plan and will involve the entire SCC community in order to decide specific strategies for best fit in our environment.
