Curriculum Description
The Simulation and Game Development curriculum provides a broad background in simulation and game development with practical applications in creative arts, visual arts, audio/video technology, creative writing, modeling, design, programming and management.
Students will receive hands-on training in design, 3D modeling, software engineering, database administration and programming for the purpose of creating simulations and games.
Graduates should qualify for employment as designers, artists, animators, programmers, testers, quality assurance analysts, engineers and administrators in the entertainment industry, health care, education, corporate training, and government organizations.
Degrees Awarded
The Associate in Applied Science Degree - Simulation and Game Development is awarded by Guilford Technical Community College upon completion of this program.
Note
- Guildford Technical Community College is the degree-granting institution.
- SGD 112 and SGD 113 are gateway courses. Students must complete these courses with a letter grade of C or better in order to advance.

Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the SCC Simulation and Game Development program will:
- Illustrate the economic, social, and cultural implications of interactive media.
- Explain the essential creative requirements from various disciplines in the development of simulation and gaming projects.
- Develop games and simulations for education, training, and other commercial entities.
- Demonstrate program proficiency for various media, including 2-D and 3-D graphics, animation, and sound.
- Implement current object-oriented programming and software development practices.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan, produce, and test complex interactive applications.
