Curriculum Description
Upon admission to another public two-year institution or to a public university, a community college student who was enrolled in an associate in fine arts degree program and who satisfactorily completed with a grade of “C” or better all courses that are designated for college transfer (general education, elective, or premajor) will receive credit for those courses. The receiving institution will determine whether the course will count as general education, major, or elective credit. Because the AFA curriculum standard includes only 28 SHC for general education, AFA students who transfer must meet the general education requirements of the receiving institution.
While this degree is designed to prepare students to meet selective admission criteria for programs such as the Bachelor of Fine Arts, this degree does not guarantee automatic admission into a college or university art program. Many art programs contain a portfolio requirement for certain courses or programs.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Associate of Fine Arts Degree will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of aesthetic and visual literacy skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency in applying the visual elements of design and the organizational principles of design to their own two- and three-dimensional work.
- Demonstrate effective interviewing and job seeking skills and the completion of a quality portfolio.
- Demonstrate professional behavior and conduct commensurate with industry standards for maintaining equipment and managing a studio.
- Demonstrate an ability to effectively market and sell work through the creation of a marketing plan.
