Tutoring - Academic Support Center

The Academic Support Center (ASC), located in R-212 on the 2nd floor of our library, offers free tutoring for students. Students enrolled in at least one curriculum class at SCC may receive free academic assistance by working with qualified tutors.

Academic Support Center Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

How do I get a tutor?

Students needing a tutor must fill out an application which is available electronically below or they may come by the ASC and complete a paper copy. Generally, students can expect a two- to five-day wait for placement with a tutor. The assigned tutor will work with the student at regularly scheduled sessions throughout the semester. One-time tutoring sessions are available to help students with reading and writing assignments in any subject; appointments for these sessions can be scheduled by calling (336) 386-3460 or visiting the ASC. All tutoring takes place in the library and is supervised by the Assistant Directors.

Tutoring is offered at the Yadkin Center via Adobe Connect or on-site as possible and can be scheduled by calling (336) 386-3460.

Need Online Tutoring?

Tutoring is offered to online students via Adobe Connect and can be scheduled by calling (336) 386-3460.

Application

ASC Application Please email the application the the Academic Support Center at asc@surry.edu or bring the application to the ASC.

How can I become a tutor?

Students wishing to become tutors must demonstrate proficiency in a subject area. They must also submit faculty referrals, complete an application and interview process, and pass a transcript review. Upon selection, tutors are given an orientation and are required to attend training sessions in critical thinking throughout the semester. Tutors are compensated for their services.
