Emergency Medical Programs

Emergency Medical Services, or EMS, is an exciting career choice that provides individuals with an opportunity in a health career with expanded borders. For students wishing to become credentialed as EMS providers in North Carolina, Surry Community College offers certificate programs through Corporate and Continuing Education, which include Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic.
EMS providers are trained to provide emergency care to sick and injured patients outside of medical facilities and hospitals. These technicians assess the individual's situation and provide appropriate treatment while operating within the strict medical guidelines of each certification level. The EMT Basic course is generally the gateway course for entering into the EMS profession.

|Certified Providers may view the BLS Continuing Ed Calendar for scheduled sessions.
|Tuition for EMS courses is waived for members of NC Lifesaving organizations
(ie. Fire Department, Rescue Squad, EMS, Law Enforcement)
Student Release Requirements
Students over the age of 16 and under the age of 18 may enroll and participate in classes through the Corporate and Continuing Education Division ONLY if they have a completed Student Release Form
on file at Surry Community College. This form must be completed and submitted at the beginning of each college semester. Junior / Cadet members and their departments should ensure that these persons complete and submit this form by January 1, May 16
, and August 15
of each year that they wish to enroll in Public Safety course offerings. No student under the age of 16 may enroll or participate in any course offered through the Corporate and Continuing Education Division.
