Cabinetry
This is a series of courses (Cabinetmaking I - Cabinetmaking V) which carries the student from simple creation of cabinets and plastic laminated tops through estimating wood and material costs, labor, building costs and selection of material, hinges, pulls, and catches.

CFC Certification
This training course is designed for HVAC technical personnel to assist in meeting EPA mandated requirements related to Air Quality Standards. State certification exam is given on the SCC Campus in Dobson.

General Contractor's Prep
This course is designed to prepare students for the General Contractor's licensing exam in North Carolina. Emphasis is on types of questions found on the exam and a review of the laws and regulations applicable to general contractors.

HVAC Fundamentals/Advanced: Courses under this heading provide industrial mechanics and helpers through experienced HVAC technicians with skills and knowledge to become familiar with terminology, laws of refrigeration, absolute pressure and temperature, energy conservation as well as controls, tools, materials, air conditioning and heating service, troubleshooting and repair.

Lead Based Paint Hazard Management
Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Initial Training - North Carolina's new Lead Program for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) went into effect January 1, 2010. This program was initiated in response to new US EPA regulations intended to protect building occupants and children from lead-based paint hazards. SCC is an accredited provider of the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Management for Renovation, Repair, and Painting. The RRP initial class is an 8 hour class taught once a month at one of SCC's off-campus centers.

This course is designed to provide electrical contractors with updated information on the latest changes in the National Electric Code, NC Electric Code, and local utility company requirements.

Small Gas Engine Repair
This course is designed to develop basic skills and knowledge in the principles and techniques involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of 2- and 4-cycle small gasoline engines.

Upholstery
Students will learn all of the skills necessary to secure an entry level position in the commercial upholstery field. Students are taught the entire process, from tearing down the old piece through rebuilding the frames, up to the restoration of the piece.

Welding
This course will teach basic welding skills including welding metal with oxtacetylene equipment, using tools to shape and cut metals, welding metal with shielded metal arch equipment and understanding welding tests and codes.
Supply List: 1 Vise-Grip brand 10" 10WR Locking Pliers, 1 Airsoft corded ear plugs, 1 pair Tillman#750 Elk Skin Glove (Mig, Stick), 1 pair Miller Glove (Tig), 1 JT Aluminized Hand Pad (Heat Shield), 1 pair Crews Checklite Safety Glasses (Clear), 1 MK Welding Cap, 1 Pearson Welder's Pliers (YS-50), 1 package Miller Welding Calculators (pack of 3 different calculators). All items may be purchased for approximately $100 at welding supply stores, such as Machine and Welding Supply in Mount Airy.
Clothing Requirement: cotton clothing, long pants, no cuffs. No shorts allowed. Long sleeve shirts. For welding and cutting spark protection, leather boots at least 6" high will be required.
