Effective Teacher Training

This class presents an overview of the Effective Teacher Training course. The ETT program emphasizes information and behavioral skills needed in order to recognize and apply those teaching practices that research supports as most effective. Educators must look at time as a resource whose appropriate use is carefully planned for and strictly managed. This class presents teaching skills, which maximize learning time. This class is offered in the traditional face-to-face style or as an online class.

National Board Certification and Renewal

We offer two courses to help prepare for National Board Certification. The first course, Tips for Teachers, provides a comprehensive introduction to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification process. Providing information for both candidates and potential candidates, the course focuses on the four portfolio entries and the six assessment center entries. Detailed instructions for each aspect of the ten areas are discussed. Tips for completing the certification process, including the video entries, are given during the course.

The second course, Writing for the NBC, follows the Tips class. Students are given time to write on portfolio topics followed by a critique of their writing.

The third class is for teachers who already have NBC, but will be renewing in the near future.

Storytelling 101: Learning the Craft

There is a great re-emergence of storytelling in this country. Festivals are springing up all over the country and storytelling groups are growing. Yes, some people are natural storytellers - just like some people are natural singers or dancers. But storytelling can be refined and learned and strengthened. Natural storytellers, good storytellers, or new storytellers will always strive to be the best they can be. Having a safe and encouraging place to learn the craft, build stories, and grow is important. That's the purpose of this class.

Approved by Surry County Schools for teacher renewal CEU's.
